The negative impacts of global climate change have intensified over the last few decades, posing a serious problem in the Programme area. These changes have led to prolonged droughts and water scarcity, while extreme temperatures have significantly increased the severity of wildfires. Mutual cooperation is essential to adapt to climate change, prevent further damage, and mitigate its negative effects, particularly in relation to forest fires, floods, and storms.

The project partners, Siemiatycze Commune and the Lviv Oblast, are characterized by significant forest cover, with over 20% of these regions consisting of forests and floodplains that are frequently affected by floods.

The main objective of the ClimResc project is to strengthen the cooperation of rescue services operating on both sides of the Polish-Ukrainian border. This will enable a more effective and efficient response to emerging threats, such as forest fires, and help mitigate the effects of natural disasters. As a result of the project, fire brigades on both sides of the border will be equipped to combat fires and manage the aftermath of natural disasters such as floods and storms. Each partner will purchase one light and one heavy rescue and firefighting vehicle, along with a power generator. Additionally, Polish and Ukrainian firefighters will enhance their qualifications through joint training sessions focused on decision-making during disaster response and combating various types of fires.
The project outcomes will be promoted through conferences held in both countries.

Through these activities, the project will contribute to counteracting climate change and natural disasters, leading to improved safety for residents, and better protection of property and the environment in the cross-border area of Poland and Ukraine. The implementation of this project also establishes a strong foundation for the continued development of cooperation between the partners.
