Palliative care is about cherishing and respecting each individual, ensuring that even in illness, their life is honored and given the best possible quality. Unfortunately, in both Poland and Ukraine, the quality and availability of palliative services are not yet satisfactory. Hospitals face common challenges, such as limited resources, which negatively affect the quality of infrastructure, equipment, and the competencies of healthcare professionals.

The overall objective of the CareLikeHome project is to ensure equal access to medical care and promote the stability of healthcare systems by improving patient care conditions, increasing bed capacity, and facilitating cross-border exchange of expertise among medical personnel in geriatric, palliative, and hospice care in the hospitals of Lviv, Ternopil, and Krosno. Through this project, three departments of palliative care in these hospitals will be renovated to treat 3,869 patients annually. Additionally, three specialized vehicles, along with medical and patient care equipment, will be purchased.

Medical personnel will enhance their skills and knowledge in palliative and geriatric care, as well as in the treatment of oncological diseases, by participating in a study tour and conferences. Importantly, the project will also develop Methodological Guidelines on uniform nutrition standards for dependent patients, based on thorough research. Additionally, a Roadmap for creating nutrition protocols for Ukrainian hospitals will be established.

By improving the quality of medical services, the CareLikeHome project will contribute to the overall well-being of the communities. Furthermore, its impact will extend beyond the target area, as healthcare professionals in other institutions will also benefit from the Methodological Guidelines and Nutrition protocols developed through this initiative.
