Crisis situations such as the war in Ukraine and the COVID-19 pandemic in recent years have highlighted the crucial role of good access to medical transport. Rapid response is essential in ambulance services as it directly impacts the outcome of time-sensitive medical emergencies. When state medical rescue systems in Poland and Ukraine are overwhelmed due to an excessive number of calls or limited resources of paramedics and doctors, additional resources and alternative solutions must be provided.

The RescueCars project involves cooperation between the Independent Public Health Care Center in Łosice and the Central City Clinical Hospital of Ivano-Frankivsk City Council to improve access to medical transport and diagnostics. Within the project, the hospital in Łosice will modernize and extend the hospital building, including the ambulance ramp and the adjacent surgical clinic, ensuring that patients receive immediate care upon arrival. An ambulance and diagnostic medical equipment will be purchased. Ivano-Frankivsk Hospital will acquire two ambulances, one of which will be equipped with a mobile X-ray unit for rapid diagnosis of patients.

Local residents will have the opportunity to attend educational events in the form of picnics, which will familiarize them with the work of medical transport and the proper use of emergency medical team calls. A handbook on this topic, targeted at primary school pupils, will be published. Importantly, procedures for organizing medical transport in crisis situations will be developed.

The project will significantly improve access to timely medical help in the target area. It will also have a multiplier effect, as the publications will be available online for use by other medical facilities.
