Protecting the population against progressive climate change is becoming an increasing challenge. Accompanying disasters affect everyday life. Thanks to the Programme, it will be possible to mitigate their effects by taking comprehensive measures.
The AquaGuard project aims to prevent and reduce risks related to climate change. In the Lelis Commune this will be achieved by modernisation of the wastewater treatment technology and the purchase of specialized equipment, including a vehicle, hydraulic crane, hook-lift, pressure hook-lift, slurry tanker, spreader, and plough. In Skole (UA, Lviv Oblast), the reconstruction of drinking water disinfection facilities and the purchase of a specialized water collection truck are planned.
The infrastructural measures will be accompanied by various soft activities – conferences, a competition, open lessons for schoolchildren and an ecological picnic, as well as a promotional film. Additionally, a joint concept for protecting water resources in the Polish-Ukrainian borderland will be developed. It will raise awareness of disasters and risks caused by human activity.
The modernisation of the outdated sewage treatment plant will ensure efficient and trouble-free wastewater treatment. Meanwhile, purchase of a hook-lift, i.e. a hydraulic crane, will facilitate the collection of imported waste. Taking into account the occurrence of various natural disasters, in particular drought, the Lelis Commune plans to purchase a vehicle capable of transporting, distributing and delivering water under high pressure. On the Ukrainian side, the water supply will improve. In the long term, this will translate into improving the natural environment and reducing the impact of drought.
