10.10.2024 - 09.10.2026

In the cross-border area of Poland and Ukraine, the negative effects of global climate change have intensified over the past few decades, posing a significant problem. They include periods of drought and water scarcity, with extreme temperatures greatly increasing the severity of wildfires. Mutual cooperation between rescue and firefighting services is necessary to adapt to climate change and mitigate forest fires in particular.

The partners of the ClimSafe project aim to improve the efficiency of the rescue and firefighting services from the Lubelskie (PL) and Volyn (UA) regions. They will buy the necessary equipment for the rescue units in these areas, especially specialized vehicles. On the Polish side, they will also install 6 radio communication points: in Tomaszów, Hrubieszów, Włodawa and Biała districts – 1 point each, in Chełm district – 2 points. This system is essential for improving response times and coordination during widespread disasters. The project includes the reconstruction of the Training and Practical Center for Fire Volunteer Training and Rescue Training Center in Lutsk. In addition, needed equipment will go to the Training and Practical Center. Partners will organise a joint training session to share best practices in climate-induced disaster mitigation. However, during the seminar they will develop a strategy document that outlines the principles of cross-border cooperation and disaster management in border areas, as well as a methodological handbook for the fire services of Poland and Ukraine.

The residents of both regions covered by the ClimSafe project will be better protected from the consequences of natural disasters and catastrophes resulting from advancing climate change. Moreover, Polish and Ukrainian rescue units will enhance the potential response to a disaster in this region.
