CBBCThe unique environmental conditions of the cross-border areas of Poland and Ukraine make these regions critical habitats for particularly valuable European species of flora and fauna. However, these species are threatened by climate change and human activities.
The CBBC project addresses the common challenge of conserving and preserving biodiversity and natural ecosystems in the project area, which encompasses Western Polissia in Ukraine and Eastern Poland. The project partners, Nobel National Nature Park and Narew National Park plan to establish a monitoring system that will help to identify and address the risks and threats to valuable species of flora and fauna. This initiative will include the construction of a Biodiversity Monitoring Centre in Nobel National Nature Park, as well as avian observation facilities, such as observation towers in both parks and an observation hide at Topilec Ponds in Narew National Park. Joint research activities will involve scientific expeditions focused on biodiversity monitoring in Ukraine and Poland. To improve scientific research and biodiversity monitoring, essential equipment will be purchased to support the overall functioning of the Biodiversity Monitoring Centre. Additionally, the partners will hold educational and promotional campaigns, including a social media campaign, an educational video, competitions for children and youth, and the creation of interactive classroom kits for 50 schools. They will also organize two Open Days and two conferences in both countries.
The CBBC project will use a cross-border, holistic, and integrated approach to biodiversity conservation, ensuring that its outcomes and benefits extend beyond national borders and contribute to the collective preservation of the natural heritage in these protected cross-border areas.
