The Polish and Ukrainian neighbouring regions share many socio-economic and natural resource-related tasks. However, despite this, there has been a lack of concrete action to coordinate fire-fighting activities. Fires and their effects know no borders. Local authorities in border areas – project partners have a key role to play in strengthening the critical infrastructure network by ensuring that it functions properly. Securing cross-border infrastructure connects people and supports systems – it has a transnational significance that requires planning and coordination for the whole area.

The project aims to improve the institutional capacity of the crisis management system. This will be achieved through 4 joint training courses for 120 firefighters and 2 ‘Cross-border Civil Protection Network Workshops’. Strengthening the capacity of the emergency services and their response capacity also means purchasing specialised equipment. Moreover, 3 fire-fighting vehicles and a mobile fire-fighting ladder will be purchased. A strategy document ‘State of knowledge on cross-border disaster management’ will be prepared. A Cross-Border Civil Protection and Security Alliance – a joint initiative on disaster risk management – will be established. It will be the basis for further cooperation in a joint cross-border disaster management system. Partners will share their experiences.

The implementation of the project will improve the fire safety of the cross-border area. The equipment and personnel potential of the services responsible for our common security will be strengthened.
