The negative impact of climate change have intensified over the last few decades and is a serious problem in the Programme area. The number of fires is increasing, but also other events such as floods, storms, fallen trees, damage to buildings, electrical networks and fires. Project partners from 9 communes and village councils are areas particularly vulnerable to natural disasters with a large number of forests, peat bogs and numerous rivers, where there are many threats related to climate change. Rivne oblast belongs to the monitoring and negative impact zone of the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant.

Therefore, it is very crucial to improve the equipment of firefighters with modern one for fighting fires and removing local hazards. Such equipment will be purchased within the project– a total of 9 rescue and firefighting vehicles. In addition to purchases, the experience of units, exercises on new equipment and joint learning and exchange of experiences between firefighters are very significant. The project includes 2 trainings: one in each country, each of them consists of theory and practice part. A total of 120 rescuers will improve their knowledge and skills. Polish and Ukrainian firefighters will learn together to make decisions during the elimination of the effects of fires and the effects of natural disasters. They will improve cooperation and management with each other, learn the principles of functioning of partner institutions. Promotion activities cover 2 conferences – one in each country.

Thanks to the EU Funds the level of equipping rescue units with specialised rescue and fire-fighting equipment will raise. They will more effectively respond to emerging threats of forest fires and to remove the effects of natural disasters such as floods, fires and storms.
