The common challenge and main goal of this project is to support access to clean water and sustainable water management in the Polish-Ukrainian borderland and to improve the quality of people’s lives by improving sewage infrastructure and management.

The main works in the project are related to the sewage network. On the Polish side, a sanitary sewage network will be constructed in the town of Zemborzyce Podleśne and Zemborzyce Dolne (Konopnica Commune, Lubelskie Voivodeship) with a length of about 2.5 km. On the Ukrainian side, the sewage treatment plant in Terebovlia (Ternopil Oblast) will be modernised. Investment activities will be combined with soft ones, such as creation of a cross-border platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of water and sewage management, the development of a practical guide on water protection issues and good practices in this area. The guide will also be published in two language versions: Polish and Ukrainian.

All of these activities will have a positive impact on the improvement of the natural environment, the quality of people’s lives and economic development of the area. Wastewater will be properly treated before discharge into the environment, which will contribute to the protection of aquatic ecosystems and diversity. Safe disposal of pollutants is crucial to protect public health as it prevents the spread of infectious diseases that can be transmitted through sewage. Good sewage infrastructure is an important aspect for economic development, attracting investments, creating jobs and increasing the attractiveness of the place. The project will strengthen cross-border cooperation between the Konopnica Commune and Terebovlia and people-to-people contacts.
