Ensuring physical health and mental well-being of children, in particular, by the provision of medical care for children with disabilities is a common challenge for the communities on both sides of the border, which is becoming even more difficult in the context of war and displacement.  About 500 children with disabilities who need long-term care, live in Dolyna. As such services are not provided in place, they have to travel long distances to other cities. In Ustrzyki Dolne there is a lack of rehabilitation, psychological assistance, and recovery services for children with disabilities, children from vulnerable categories, including refugees from Ukraine, and all other children in need of such services.

SOS4Children project partners plan to improve and increase the availability of medical services in both communities. The Child Health Centre in Dolyna will be modernised and a new rehabilitation facility – Health Rehabilitation and Sensory Integration Centre for Children will be created in Ustrzyki Dolne, together with modern equipment. Digitalising processes are also planned. The project activities will be focused on the introduction of new medical services (rehabilitation, sensory and speech therapy, psychological care, palliative care) and development of existing medical services (treatment, diagnostics, prevention, intensive and emergency care), a joint concept for medical personnel training and experience exchange, the creation of chains of joint provision of medical rehabilitation and health services. Creating interactions between the centres and local residents to raise awareness about children’s health will be the goal of a large-scale information campaign.

Project will have an influence on improving the quality of medical services and and well-being of children in their communities.
