The purpose of the project is to carry out the reconstruction of treatment facilities. The existing sewage treatment plants were put into operation in the 1970s, during the period of operation they have already become obsolete and do not perform their main function. Because of this, improperly treated sewage enters surface water bodies and the Rata River, which flows into the Western Bug, thereby polluting the natural environment and creating a danger to the population. The Western Bug flows through the territory of Poland and flows into the artificial Zegzyn Lake.
